Lake Macleod Salt Lake sits just north of Carnarvon and is a slight detour, but if you're a salt lake lover then it's worth flying your drone here. The spot I’ve pinned on the map is where we captured these photos. Just follow Blowholes Road north of town and you’ll pass a series of striking salt lakes where you can easily pull over and even wander out onto the salt flats.

When we visited in November, the lake was dry and covered in salt crystal formations. The appearance of the lake changes with the seasons. During winter, you’ll likely find dry, crystallised salt patterns, while in summer the lake can fill with water, especially after tropical rainfall or cyclones. No matter the time of year, the contrast of textures and colours from above makes this spot an epic location for drone photography.
