The Mala Walk is another great section of the Uluru Base Walk to experience Uluru up close. This is where the Base Walk begins, but if you don't want to complete the whole track you can just do the Mala Walk section. It is much shorter and still takes you around the base to some caves.
Every part of Uluru feels unique and different, which is what makes this place so special. Along the way, you will spot little details on the rock face like small caves and Aboriginal art that carry deep history and rich culture.
There is also a ranger-guided walk along the Mala track every day at 8am from October to April and 10am from May to September. It is free to join and takes around 1.5 hours to complete the 2 km return walk. You will learn all about the park’s geology, natural environment, and cultural heritage from the people who live here.
The flies around Uluru during the day are notorious, so bring a fly net for your face to make the walk more enjoyable, especially if they easily bother you.
Your NT Parks Pass does not cover Uluru, so you will need to purchase a separate pass. You can buy it online before you go or at the entrance gate. It costs $38 per person for a three-day pass.
