Blinding white sand, warm tropical water that's crystal clear, and a view of the mainland in the distance, creating the ultimate feeling of an island escape. Not to mention, you can also snorkel right from shore and see the colourful reef that forms part of the Great Barrier Reef, with stunning coral formations and abundance of marine life.
Getting to Fitzroy Island:
You can access the island with a 45-minute ferry ride from Cairns. The two main operators are the Fitzroy Flyer and Fitzroy Island Adventures, with multiple daily departures. Prices for a return ferry ticket typically start at around $99 AUD for adults and $49.50 AUD for children.
Once on the island, you can walk to Nudey Beach which will only take about 15 minutes. The track winds through lush trees before coming out to some rocky sections. Before you head down, there is a large boulder that provides a perfect vantage point of the beach below for some amazing photos.
