The Field of Light in Uluru is a mesmerising art installation that offers a unique way to experience the area. Fifty thousand glass spheres are connected in an intricate web of glowing colours that slowly shift, covering a massive area and creating a breathtaking view, especially with Uluru and the surrounding desert as the backdrop.
There are several tour options available. The cheapest general admission ticket for sunset is $49.50 per person, which includes access to the Field of Light and return transfers so you can freely wander among the glowing spheres. The more expensive tours include access to the raised viewing area with panoramic views of Uluru, which I think is the highlight of the experience. Seeing the Field of Light from above with Uluru in the distance feels extra special, though it does cost more. AAT Kings offers a sunrise package for $129 per person, while Ayers Rock Resort runs sunset tours for $135 per person. Both include entry to the private dune viewing area.
We have experienced the Field of Light at both sunrise and sunset and found the sunset tour to be the better option. You begin at the dune top, watching the sunset behind Uluru as thousands of lights slowly illuminate the foreground, then wander through the glowing landscape as night falls. It felt absolutely magical. The sunset tour also includes canapés and sparkling wine at the viewing area, which added to the atmosphere and felt more special than the hot beverages served after sunrise.
