Nobbys Beach is one of Newcastle’s most iconic spots and a favourite for both locals and visitors. The long sandy stretch is perfect for afternoon walks and it’s the ultimate place to watch the sunset, with the lighthouse perched on the cliff at the end of the beach creating a stunning backdrop.

We loved spending time here in the evenings. The atmosphere was laid back with people playing volleyball on the sand and groups enjoying games in the park just behind the beach. There’s also a scenic walk along the river that leads up to the lighthouse, where we even spotted dolphins.

You can also wander along the sand for beautiful views. At the northern end of the beach you’ll find small sand dunes beneath the lighthouse, which became our favourite spot to take photos at sunset.
