Exmouth is home to some incredible surf spots, and Dunes Beach is easily one of the most popular. Known for its consistent waves and stunning stretch of coastline, Dunes draws surfers from all over. The best swells for surfing are from July to October.

There’s a rustic little beach shack perched by the sand where locals and travellers gather each morning, coffee in hand, to watch the sets roll in and check the swell. It’s a bit of a ritual and the perfect way to start the day.

If you’re chasing more surf, head a little further south and you’ll find Steps and Hunters, two other fun surf breaks. Both offer more mellow waves that are ideal if you’re riding a longboard or just after a slow session. Swimming at these beaches isn’t ideal due to the rocky reef, so if you’re just looking to cool off, Wobiri Beach is a better option with calm, clear water and a sandy entry.
