This was our first time doing an open-door helicopter scenic flight and although it felt a little scary at first, the unique views over Kakadu National Park were so worth it. They have two main routes that they fly depending on whether it’s the wet or dry season. During the wet season, you’ll fly over flowing waterfalls and see them from above. Since we visited during the dry season, our flight took us over the unique rocky formations, through gorges, and along winding rivers that eventually opened up to massive green wetlands.
I was blown away by how diverse and close all the different landscapes were. Each one was so unique and something I wouldn’t have experienced the same way without seeing it from above. We also spotted so much wildlife like birds, water buffalo and even wild horses which was so cool to see from the sky. This is hands down one of the best ways to experience Kakadu if you get the chance.
Kakadu Air operates flights from a few different locations and offers a variety of packages with different flight lengths. We did the 45-minute scenic helicopter flight from Jabiru and thought it was the perfect amount of time to see everything. Prices start from around $250 per person and go up to $650 per person depending on the length of the flight.
