Buley Rockhole is the perfect spot to cool off and unwind in Litchfield National Park. A flowing stream of water trickles down into a series of natural rock pools, creating peaceful little swimming holes tucked between the red rocks. The water is super clear and refreshing, and the warm reds of the surrounding rocks make it feel like an outback oasis.
There are plenty of pools to choose from, with the main one found at the base of the stream. This area tends to be very busy, especially with families and kids, so if you’re after a quieter experience, it’s best to visit before 10am. We came just after lunch and while it was packed near the bottom, we explored further up the stream and found our own pool to relax in. Most of the crowds stick to the lower section, so heading upstream is definitely worth it if you’re after a bit of peace and quiet.
Buley Rockhole is the ideal place to pack a lunch and spend the day relaxing by the water. The walk from the carpark is super easy and only takes around five minutes, making it one of the most accessible spots in the park.
To enter Litchfield National Park (and any other NT national park), you’ll need a parks pass. These can be purchased online and are valid across all Northern Territory parks. A day pass is $10 per person, or you can grab a two-week pass for $30 per person.
If you're planning to bring your drone, make sure to apply for a permit online in advance, as it's required for all NT national parks.
