Walpa Gorge is an easy short hike in Kata Tjuta where you walk between towering dome walls on either side. At the end there is a small stream and a pond that sits perfectly in the middle, making for some unique photo opportunities. If you visit in late winter, the entrance of the gorge is covered with clusters of pink daisies which look so pretty and magical against the backdrop of the outback landscape.
The track is a gradual uphill walk that is fairly easy, but the path can be rocky and uneven so take your time. It’s 2.7km return and can be done in roughly 1 hour, making it a short and rewarding walk with amazing views. It can get very windy in this area, especially in the mornings and evenings, so you might want to bring a jacket.
Your NT Parks Pass does not cover Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park so you will need to purchase a separate pass. You can buy it online before you go or at the entrance gate. It costs $38 per person for a three-day pass.
