Catching a sunrise with the kangaroos in Cape Hillsborough is a must when visiting the Mackay Region! Every morning at Casuarina Beach, kangaroos and wallabies gather on the beach to feed on seaweed and mangrove seed pods, creating an unforgettable wildlife encounter with the backdrop of the rising sun. The beach itself is long and peaceful, perfect for a sunrise walk or just sitting back and soaking in the views.

It’s best to arrive about 30 minutes before sunrise to catch the full experience. The rangers are often there to monitor the interaction and answer any questions. When visiting, please respect the wildlife and don't feed them. This spot is quite popular so expect some crowds. There is a caravan park right behind the beach so a lot of the people staying will be on the beach trying to spot kangaroos too.
