Seixal beach on Madeira's north coast is a dramatic black-sand cove backed by cliffs and a small waterfall, so come for the views and a quick swim rather than a long sunbathing session. The coastal road is narrow and parking is limited, so aim to arrive mid-morning, bring water shoes for rocky patches and volcanic sand, and expect only a couple of cafés and basic toilets rather than full beach facilities. There is no regular lifeguard and north-coast currents can get strong, so stick to sheltered rock pools for snorkeling and only enter the water on calm days. Treat Seixal as a scenic stop or part of a hike rather than a resort beach and you’ll leave happy.
