The Key Summit Hike is a stunning half-day walk that follows part of the famous Routeburn Track. From the summit, you’ll enjoy sweeping views over the Humboldt and Darran Mountain ranges in Fiordland National Park.

The trail is well maintained with a steady, gradual climb through lush, moss-covered rainforest before reaching the alpine viewpoints. There are only a few short rocky sections with steps, making it suitable for families with children who are comfortable walking uphill.

The hike is 8.2 km out and back, with approximately 421 m of elevation gain, making it a rewarding yet manageable adventure. At the car park, you’ll likely encounter the curious and cheeky kea birds — just remember not to feed them.
