Cathedral Grove, officially known as MacMillan Provincial Park, is the most popular spot on Vancouver Island to view old-growth trees. Here, you’ll find some of the oldest and tallest trees in Canada.

The tree canopy is up to 80 metres high in places, with some of the trees as wide as a car! Allow at least 30 minutes to walk the 1km loop trail to see the biggest tree on the south side of the park.

Cathedral Grove is very busy during the summer months, on weekends and especially in the middle of the day. If you can, visit early (before 10am) or late (after 4pm).

Plan to try and stop at Cathedral Grove on your outgoing journey to Tofino. If there is no available parking, you'll have a second chance on the way back.
