The enormous amount of rainfall and mild climate help huge trees to grow in the Port Renfrew area. Avatar Grove (called T’l’oqwxwat by the Pacheedaht First Nation) is one of the best places to go to see them.

The Lower Grove Trail, located on the right hand side of the road, 520m return) is mostly flat and features some enormous cedars and Douglas Fir trees.

Avatar Grove is situated on Gordon River Road, an unpaved logging road. It’s a 7km detour from Highway 14 and about a 15-20 minute drive from Port Renfrew. Drive cautiously to avoid potholes and be sure to yield to industrial traffic.

Please note that Avatar Grove has been temporarily closed since 2022. The boardwalks are in a stare of disrepair. Use the trails at your own risk
