At the far end of Lauterbrunnen Valley, the little village of Stechelberg is your starting point for one of the most jaw-dropping cable car rides in the world. From here, you glide straight up the cliffs into the car-free village of Mürren, with views of waterfalls and towering rock walls all around you.
The ride: This isn’t just any cable car—it’s officially the steepest in the world. With a maximum incline of 159% (nearly 58°!), it feels more like flying than riding.
Duration: ~4 minutes (plus the short Gimmelwald change).
Season: Runs year-round, with cabins departing every ~30 minutes.
The vibe: Peaceful and unique. Instead of a crowded tourist gondola, this feels like a secret portal into another world. Mürren is perched high on the cliffs with no cars, just wooden chalets, flower boxes, and views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau that will stop you in your tracks.
At the top: Perfect for families—easy hikes, cozy cafés, the famous 'flower' playground, and even paragliding if you’re feeling adventurous.
