Greyfriars Kirkyard is an historic graveyard located in the Old Town of Edinburgh, Scotland, containing a wealth of stories and monuments from times past.

The graveyard features two low ironwork cages called mortsafes, built to deter grave robbing in the nineteenth century; a Martyr's Monument commemorating executed Covenanters; and various other fascinating sculptures reflecting mortality and immortality.

Harry Potter fans will also like to know that many of Edinburgh's graveyards helped inspire the names for characters in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels when she lived here. So be sure to look out for 'Potter' and others here.
