What you’ll do

This 3-day, 2-night Hornby & Denman Island itinerary is a slow, intentional island escape designed for travelers who want beaches, art, nature, and true Gulf Island vibes—without rushing. Starting in the Comox Valley, you’ll stock up on supplies before crossing by BC Ferries to Denman Island, then hop across with BC Ferries to Hornby Island, one of the most iconic and laid-back islands on the coast.

Your time on Hornby is split between world-class beaches, local food, and island culture. Swim and paddle at Big Tribune or Little Tribune (often called the Hawaii of Canada for its turquoise water and white sand), explore sandstone formations and tidal pools, and end your days with sunsets at Helliwell Provincial Park. Along the way, discover hidden island landmarks like the famous “Soup Can” and enjoy meals at camp or grab an award-winning pizza loved by locals and visitors alike.

Day two focuses on Hornby’s creative spirit—visit local shops and markets, book an artist studio tour, and walk through the Jeffrey Rubinoff Sculpture Park, a 200-acre outdoor gallery blending large-scale art with forest and ocean views. Spend your afternoon at Fossil Beach, where ancient marine fossils are embedded in the shoreline, and enjoy a peaceful sunset dinner by the water.

On day three, you’ll make your way back across Denman Island to Vancouver Island, carrying memories of quiet beaches, island sunsets, and a slower pace of travel.

This itinerary includes ferry timing guidance, driving distances, what to bring, pet tips, seasonal weather notes, and booking reminders—especially important during peak summer months when accommodations must be reserved well in advance.

Perfect for road trippers, vanlifers, couples, solo travelers, and anyone craving an authentic island experience, this route is about slowing down, supporting local communities, and exploring the Gulf Islands with respect and curiosity.
