Cape Farewell Lookout in New Zealand is a stunning spot at the northern tip of the South Island. It offers breathtaking views of the Tasman Sea, sand dunes, towering cliffs, and rocky landscapes.

The walk to the lookout only takes 5 minutes from the Cape Farewell carpark and is well worth it for the amazing view of the northern most point of the South Island.

In 2020, the Wharariki Ecosanctuary was established in the northernmost part of the cape to protect seabirds, rare native plants, giant snails, and geckos within a predator-proof fence. Because of it's remote location, you can often find yourself being the only ones there.

Photography info: We went at sunrise and were the only ones at the lookout. It was beautiful to see the light hitting the Cape. You could also photograph it at sunset and get backlit colourful skies if the weather allowed. I took my wide angle lens with me (16-35mm) and my ND filters to smooth out the water.
