Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Conservation Park is an ancient and majestic forest located in the Bay of Plenty and East Coast regions in New Zealand. The park contains elements of volcanic and non-volcanic landforms, soils and plant life reflecting its diverse history. You can explore a primordial place with impressionable trees including podocarps such as Rimu, Tōtara, Kahikatea, Mataī and Miro. The forest serves as a home to North Island brown kiwi, red and yellow-crowned Kākāriki, whistling ducks (whio) and endangered Kārearea (New Zealand falcon).

To Te Whaiti-Nui-a-Toi Canyon is an incredible spot to photograph and only takes around 15 minutes on the left hand track from the River Road carpark. When you get to the bridge you can find a composition to photograph the canyon with its mossy green walls and flowing water. There are a few small trails near the bridge that lead down to the canyon but caution is advised.

Photography info: Take your wide angle lens and ND filters for this spot.
