Tucked away high up in the mountains of Fiordland lies the incredibly stunning alpine lake, Lake Marian. Surrounded by towering mountains, this is one day hike you dont want to miss.

The Lake Marian Track is generally considered challenging with a steady climb through a beautiful alpine valley however the first 30 minutes of the track is quite easy on a well established path which leads you to the Marian falls boardwalk. Past the falls is where where you'll encounter a variety of terrains, including muddy pathways, steep scrambles, rocky areas and slippery tree roots. At the end of the trail lies the stunning Lake Marian, framed by snow-capped peaks and surrounded by nature's colourful array of shadows and sunlight.

Photography info: There is plenty of foreshore around the lake to photos, some navigation is required around the rocks however, but nothing too difficult. The mountain and lake will be in shadow in the earlier and later parts of the day, so daylight hours are the best time to photograph.
