Cape Reinga Lighthouse is a beautiful and iconic sight located in the North Island of New Zealand. It was built in 1941 and first lit during May of that year, before being fully automated in 1987. From its vantage point, it stands at an impressive 10 meters tall, overlooking the wild and rugged collision of the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean and you can go no further than this point in New Zealand.

It is a sacred place to Māori and a significant anchorage for Pacific voyages. The Cape’s famous landmark, Pouakai Rock, is home to seabirds and has been used as a navigational aid for centuries by seafarers from this region.

Photography info: The winding footpath that leads to the Cape Reinga lighthouse creates a great leading line and there are many spots to stop and take a photo. There is also a path that leads up a grassy hill which provides a unique vantage point and view of the lighthouse from an elevated point.

I shot most of these Cape Reinga photos at golden hour just before sunset on my wide angle lens.
