Whakaari/White Island is an active andesite stratovolcano situated off the coast of New Zealand's North Island. It is captivatingly beautiful and a marvel of nature, with its rugged cliffs and 321-metre (1,053 ft) peak. Its location in the Bay of Plenty, 48 km (30 mi) from the mainland makes it a unique destination to get up close with a live volcano by scenic aerial flight. The island has been in a near continual state of eruption since its sighting in 1769.

There are many operators waiting to take you on scenic flight over Whakaari and it's honestly one of the best things you can do in the Bay of Plenty. Have your wide angle lens ready with you take those amazing shots of this active volcano.
