"Blue Cotton" — a ~100m waterfall in two tiers (a short upper drop, then a 90m plunge) into a turquoise pool, framed by orange-red cliffs and prehistoric-looking jungle and giant bamboo. It feels like stepping into Jurassic Park. The trek down (~25–30 min) passes through a salak (snake fruit) plantation, with a few steep sections and one ladder; the way back is a sweaty uphill. The most accessible of the Pronojiwo trio and swimmable when conditions are calm.
Practical info
Entry: ~IDR 10,000; parking ~IDR 5,000. (Sometimes nobody's collecting — bring small cash anyway.)
Hours: Roughly daylight; go early.
Getting there: Mulyoarjo, Pronojiwo, Lumajang. Trailhead near Warung Mbak Juara, ~30–40 min from Tumpak Sewu. Easiest on a driver day-trip from Malang/Lumajang, often bundled with Tumpak Sewu and Kabut Pelangi.
Best time: Dry-season (Apr–Oct) mornings. Avoid Dec–Mar — high water and slippery descent.
Photo tips
Frame the full drop against the rust-colored cliff; a person at the base shows the scale.
In the early noon the light falls through the canyon above casting light rays.
Bring a wide-angle and a dry bag — spray reaches the shooting spots. The ladder section makes a fun POV/reel shot.
