Entry: ~IDR 500,000 per person (includes gear, guide, boots, lunch; subject to change). Quota ~80–100 people/day, first-come. Book ahead in peak season.
Hours: Arrive before ~09:30 (descents ~09:30–12:00). Light beam best ~10:00–13:00, peaking around 11:00.
Getting there: Jetis, Pacarejo, Semanu, Gunungkidul. ~1.5 hrs (~60km) east of Yogyakarta; easiest with a private driver (~IDR 550,000–700,000/car, excl. entry).
Best time: Dry season (Apr–Oct) for reliable beams and less mud; sunny days only.
The beam is strongest around 11:00 — position a person in the shaft with mist for the classic god-ray shot; expose for the light, not the dark cave.
Bring a fast lens; it's dim down there. Protect gear from mud and moisture — a dry bag is essential on the descent.
Wide-angle for the shaft-in-cavern scale; some operators offer a drone add-on for the rappel — worth asking about for reels.
