These ruins are a fascinating slice of Robe’s history! Built in 1860, around 15 years after the town was first settled, the gaol was used to house prisoners who would otherwise have been sent to Adelaide for trial. Over the decades it fell into disrepair, and by the 1940s much of the structure had been dismantled and repurposed as road rubble.

In 1995, restoration work helped rebuild the lower walls, leaving behind what we see today – a rugged but captivating reminder of the past. It’s well worth adding to your list if you enjoy combining history with your travels.
