Located in Golden Bay, New Zealand's South Island, Te Waikoropupu Springs is any nature enthusiast's dream. Also known as Pupu Springs and Waikaremumu Springs, the springs are renowned for their majestic clarity as well as their exceptional water volume. The water discharged from the eight main vents is estimated to amount to 14,000 litres per second, and the average horizontal visibility is 63 metres - making this the home of some of the clearest freshwater ever recorded. The spiritual significance of these beautiful springs can also not be overlooked, having been registered as Wahi Tapu with the Māori Heritage Council of Heritage New Zealand. In 2023 the Environment Court granted this special place its highest legal protection, preserving it as a cultural heritage and treasured taonga (treasure) for time immemorial.
