The Settlement Center is a museum that tells the story of Iceland’s discovery and settlement, as well as the legendary pirate ("víkingr" in Old Norse) and poet Egill Skallagrímsson. Located in Borgarnes, a town in West Iceland, visitors can explore two interactive exhibitions that feature audio-guides in multiple languages across an array of topics. With its restaurant and gift shop, the museum provides an excellent place to take a break from exploring the country. Within these two exhibitions, visitors can learn about the North Atlantic voyage and uncover why those who sailed here risked their lives to escape Norway and make their home here. Come to the Settlement Center to explore the Age of Settlement, get to know Egill's Saga, and discover the rich cultural history of this incredible land for yourself.
