Bright ochre cliffs, sandy paths, and unusual rock formations create one of the most striking landscapes in Provence. The colors shift between red, orange, and white depending on the light, making every visit feel slightly different.

The Colorado Provençal, located near Rustrel in the Luberon, is a former ochre quarry transformed into a protected natural site. Today, it can be explored on foot through marked trails that pass through areas known as the Sahara, the White Desert, and the fairy chimneys.

Two main walking routes are available. The Sahara circuit is shorter and accessible, offering quick access to the most photogenic areas. The Belvédère circuit is longer and climbs higher, with views over the entire site and more varied terrain.

Paths are sandy and uneven in places, which adds to the natural feel but requires some attention while walking. The experience is focused on slow exploration and photography, rather than speed.

👉 Local Tip: Go early in the morning or late in the day for softer light and fewer people. The colors look better, and the walk feels much more enjoyable.
