Prepare for one of the coolest (and most unexpected) drives in the Faroe Islands!!! The Eysturoy Tunnel is an 11.24 km subsea tunnel connecting two of the main islands, and yes—it has the world’s first underwater roundabout.
As you drive through, you’ll reach a glowing blue art installation built around a natural rock pillar, with sculptures by local artist Tróndur Patursson inspired by the traditional Faroese chain dance. It feels surreal in the best way, like something out of a movie.
Beyond being incredibly unique, this tunnel also cuts travel time significantly! A standard one-way trip through the main Eysturoyartunnilin costs around 175 DKK (about €24 or $26 USD).
