Lake Bled is a compact, postcard-perfect lake centered on a tiny island with a baroque church, and what matters most is how you want to experience it: take a traditional pletna boat or rent a rowboat to go to the island, or simply walk the roughly 6 km lakeside path for great views and photo stops. Go early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the biggest crowds and get calmer water if you plan to row or swim in summer. The cliff-top castle above the lake is a short steep climb and worth the view, and don’t miss trying a kremšnita from a local bakery afterwards. Parking in town fills up quickly and can be paid, and buses run from Ljubljana if you prefer not to drive.
