What to expect:
Saxer Lücke is one of the most breathtaking mountain hikes in Switzerland for us, with dramatic cliffs, panoramic alpine views and the stunning Fälensee below. We started our hike at Staubern, which you can easily reach by cable car (around CHF 22 return for adults). From Staubern, it takes about 2 hours to reach Saxer Lücke with kids. From there, you can either hike back the same way or continue down to Fälensee like we did.
The trail is not super easy, but definitely doable for active families with kids who are used to hiking. Expect some steeper sections, rocky paths and exposed mountain terrain. But the views are absolutely worth it. Bring enough water and wear good hiking shoes.
How to get here:
Drive to Frümsen and take the Staubern cable car up to Berggasthaus Staubern. From there, follow the hiking trail towards Saxer Lücke.
Around 1.5h drive from Zurich.
When you do the round hike, make sure to come with public transportation.
Starting point: Frümsen Rathaus (2h from Zurich)
Ending point: Brülisau
Notes:
This is a proper mountain hike, so check the weather before you go. The trail can get slippery after rain and there is very little shade on sunny days. If you continue down to Fälensee, you can cool off at the lake before hiking back or continuing towards Brülisau via Sämtisersee.
