What to expect:
The Ruins Neu-Falkenstein feels like stepping into a fairytale 🏰🌿
Set above the valley in the beautiful Naturpark Thal, this well-preserved castle ruin is surrounded by peaceful forest trails and stunning views.
You can combine your visit with a scenic circular walk along the nearby Holzweg (we have a separate Guide for the Holzweg too) passing forest playgrounds, riverside spots, and plenty of barbecue areas. It’s perfect for a slow day outdoors: kids can explore, dogs can cool off in the water, and you’ll find lots of places to sit and enjoy the view.
The short hike up to the castle is easy and doable even with small kids (though not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs). At the top, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views, interesting info boards, and a surprisingly quiet, magical atmosphere.
How to get here:
Best option is by car 🚗
There’s a parking lot right below the ruin (CHF 5, with toilets available).
📍From Zurich: around 1–1.25 hours drive
