Campsite

This is a free camping spot about 30 minutes south of Queenstown, right on the edge of Lake Wakatipu. The views are stunning mountains, lake, the whole works, but good luck getting a spot along the river, it gets busy early. It fits around 30–40 vehicles, but again it gets packed.

It’s a solid free option if you’re looking to stay close to Queenstown without paying for a campground. The toilets are usually clean, but can get a bit whiffy just from how many people roll through. The ground is also a bit sloped in spots and gets muddy after rain, so pick your park wisely if it’s been wet. Overall, a good little stop for the night, just don’t expect solitude.
