The Grand Prismatic Spring Overlook offers one of the most iconic views in Yellowstone. From the overlook, you’ll be able to see the entire spring with its bright blue center surrounded by vibrant orange, yellow, and green microbial mats. While the boardwalk below lets you get close to the spring, this overlook is the best place to truly appreciate just how massive and colorful it is. This hike is called Fairy Falls and there is a separate parking lot for this trail.

The trail begins with a short but fairly steep climb before leveling out near the overlook. Most visitors have no trouble completing the hike, and the panoramic view at the top is well worth the effort.

Tips:
• Visit in the late morning or afternoon after the cooler morning air has warmed up. Early in the day, steam can completely hide the spring.
• Wear comfortable shoes for the uphill section.
• Restrooms are available at the nearby Grand Prismatic parking area.
• Stay on the designated trail and boardwalks to protect Yellowstone’s fragile thermal features.

Family Friendly: Yes. Most kids can complete this hike, though younger children may want a few breaks on the uphill section. The trail is well maintained, but strollers are not recommended because of the incline and gravel surface.
