West Thumb Geyser Basin is one of the most unique geothermal areas in Yellowstone because it’s located right along the shore of Yellowstone Lake. As you walk the boardwalk, you’ll see colorful hot springs, steaming geysers, bubbling pools, and thermal features that sit just feet from the lake. It’s one of the few places in the world where you can watch geothermal activity meet the largest high-elevation lake in North America.
