Whits Lake Trailhead is a small, mostly unpaved pull out that leads into a quiet forested trail up to a serene backcountry lake. The hike is moderately steep and roughly 2–3 miles each way, with uneven footing, limited parking, and no services or reliable cell signal.

Bring water, sturdy shoes, and insect protection in summer, and carry bear spray since wildlife is common. Pets aren’t allowed on park trails. Planning to camp overnight? You’ll need a Yellowstone backcountry permit. Otherwise, check current road and trail conditions at a visitor center before heading out.
