Ngārua Caves is a must-see destination for both nature and history lovers alike. The limestone caves are located close to the summit of Takaka Hill, adjacent to State Highway 60 between Motueka and Upper Takaka. Scheduled tours of the 300 metre-long caves are available, with features including cave formations and displays of Moa bones dating back centuries. Beyond this, the cave holds particular significance to Māori culture, which makes this a uniquely fascinating experience.
