Slipper Island, or Whakahau in Māori, is an enchanting island located only 3km away from the Coromandel Peninsula and approximately 8km from Pauanui in New Zealand's North Island. With a land area of 2.68km2, it has beautiful beaches, rolling hills and spectacular scenery, and is home to the Ngāti Maru Runanga and Ngāti Hei iwi. Its history stretches as far back as 18,000 years ago when it was part of the sprawling coastal plain connecting the Coromandel, but today Slipper Island is known for its resort which includes six chalets and a family homestead. It's also worth visiting the nearby islets (including Penguin Island and Rabbit Island) off its southern tip, and the 40-hectare Shoe Island / Motuhoa on its northwest corner. Slipper Island offers visitors a getaway with a fascinating past, stunning environment and all the amenities you need to relax and enjoy yourself.
