Maruia Falls is a beautiful and wide waterfall located in the Buller District of Murchison in the Nelson/Tasman region of the South Island of New Zealand. This roughly 9-11m tall waterfall was said to have grown 8m after the 1929 Murchison Earthquake, which diverted the watercourse towards an old riverbed that dropped in elevation by 8m as a result of the tectonic activity. Visitors can experience the falls from a variety of viewpoints, including roadside overlooks as well as from the bottom of the falls, providing plenty of opportunities for photographs and sightseeing along the banks of the Maruia River. With its vast size and gorgeous surroundings, this waterfall offers an unforgettable experience that combines the beauty of nature with the incredible power of seismic activity!
