1km long tunnel. Worth looking at alongside the other old mining runes in the immediate area!

Further information: Karangahake Tunnel Park is an exciting and unique walking experience in New Zealand. It takes visitors along the Ohinemuri River and over the lower Waitawheta River, connecting them with nature and stunning native flora. The highlight of the walk is a 1100m journey through the old railway tunnel, an amazing experience that will captivate all those who take part. Following this, visitors can explore the historic Crown Battery site, constructed in 1892 and later enlarged to accommodate 60 stampers for crushing quartz. With plenty of photo opportunities and time to soak up the incredible atmosphere, Karangaheke Tunnel Park is a must-do activity for anyone looking to experience some of the Coromandel's best walking trails.
