Visiting Waimangu Volcanic Valley is no ordinary experience! At this World significant geothermal system, travelers can explore beautiful views of steaming cliffs, boiling lakes, coloured terraces and streams. Taking the boat ride is a great way to get up close to the history of the 1886 eruption in addition to offering an equally beautiful view of Lake Rotomahana. Intrepid explorers can also take a walking tour into the valley and enjoy the rugged, natural beauty. The paths are well formed yet a bit steep in parts with a shuttle bus running if necessary to transport you back up to the entrance. And don't forget to check out the souvenir shop for a unique memorabilia!
