A hidden gem on Waiheke Island
Tucked away on Waiheke’s lesser-known coast, Fishermans Rock is a rugged little stunner. It’s a dream spot for swimming, snorkeling, and casting a line — just be ready for a leg workout on the stair-heavy descent. Access via Newton Street.
👣 Steep track with lots of steps – allow time for the climb back up
💧 Best swimming at mid to high tide
🪨 Wear sturdy shoes for the descent and water shoes to avoid oyster cuts
🎣 Great for fishing, snorkeling & rockpool exploring
🌟 Tip: Go early for fewer people and more marine life. Bring a towel, lunch, and make a day of it!

“The stairs are no joke but so worth it. Bring reef shoes — those oysters are sharp!”

"A great hidden area for swimming (rock jumping) and snorkeling during mid to high tide. To access the site park at the end of Newton rd and follow the path to the coast. There are a lot of stairs and it’s worth bringing study sole shoes to climb the rocks to get to the swimming area. It’s also a good idea to bring water shoes to get in and out of the water to avoid the oysters. This is not a beach so don’t expect a sandy area, it’s rugged with lots of rocks and tidal channels."
