Every kiwi should put Rangitoto on their list atleast once in their time in NZ!

Time to the summit really depends on your fitness levels. 360' views up the top. There are no shops or toilets on the island!!

Rangitoto Island summit walks begin at the Rangitoto Wharf, a 25-minute ferry ride from Queens Wharf. Make sure you arrive back to the wharf with plenty of time, to avoid missing your ferry.

Water taxis also service Rangitoto.

Alternatively, it's a 2-hour kayak to the wharf from Devonport or Takapuna Beach.

There are plenty of walking tracks to explore beyond the Summit Track, which takes about an hour one way. To make the most of your visit to Rangitoto, consider returning to the wharf via the Mackenzie Bay route for a chance to see the lighthouse. The suggested duration is approximately 2.5 hours, though you may complete it faster depending on how much time you spend at the beach. Be sure to check the island map and ferry schedule before you go. Suitable for all ages, this trip offers stunning views. Don’t forget to bring water, snacks, and sunblock!

From a review:

'What a beautiful place to visit. The walk is relatively easy for the most part and extremely well maintained. The last bit has some medium grade steps that did push my cardio a little, but plenty of beautiful places to stop and admire the view (catch your breath). We went at the very end of Spring and the weather was great but not yet too hot. Take plenty of fluids and snacks as there are no shops on the island, and make sure to only take your rubbish home. We went on the 10.15 am ferry, which gave us ample time to do several walks before the last ferry back at 4.30pm. We did a slow stroll to the summit and followed the cave track on the way down. Then we branched off for the Kidney Fern trail (remarkable little plants with leaves so thin you can see through them), and finished with a walk around the coast to see the historic baches. A fabulous day out suitable for most ages and abilities.'
