The Kielder Forest Drive is quite weird. And not bad weird I hasten to add, more kind of bizarre weird.

One of the highest roads in England, this 12km gravel track is open May 1st to December 2nd and will cost you 3 quid to drive along. But its the feeling of remoteness that makes this experience unique, as you head off into this vast coniferous woodland you quite quickly feel like you've left the real world behind and now out in the wilds. Which for us is a fairly hard feeling to come by in the UK, especially in England.

The road treats you to incredible views throughout and if you keep an eye out you may well spot Ospreys, Red Squirrels, Otters and Roe Deer amongst other wildlife.

Starting at the village of Keilder and ending near Otterburn this is a pretty cool Northumberland experience.

Pro Tip: This is great to tie in with the Otterburn Range drive. For more see our guide on that...
