Pub quiz trivia: what’s the closest island to London?

The answer is… the Isle of Sheppey.

Located 40 miles east of the capital, this small island is home to spectacular wilderness that is Elmley Nature Reserve.

This 3,300 acres of protected space is home to thousands of birds, some of which are really quite rare. What is more it’s also boasts some pretty special accommodation, with a handful of shepherds huts, beautiful glass-fronted cabins and a farm house, all nestled seamlessly and sustainably into the landscape.

We've been lucky enough to stay here twice and loved it on both occasions. Bathe in the outdoor baths whilst thousands of birds fly overhead, cook outdoors, swim in the lake, hike the wetland tracks or just relax in the comfort of Elmley's beautifully designed spaces.
