Located in Haast Pass, the Thunder Creek Falls are near SH6 and are the perfect spot to stretch your legs and enjoy the incredible scenery of the mountain pass. Just under 30 m high, Thunder Creek Falls drop from the cliffside into the Haast River below. The falls are fed by melting glacial water and are even more wild after heavy rainfall.

From the carpark, it is a short 5 minute walk to a viewing platform of the falls.

Remember: It is not recommended to cross the Haast River. Do not attempt to swim or cross after heavy rainfall or if the river is in flood, deep or fast-moving.

Personal tip: Don’t let wet weather stop you - the falls are even more spectacular in the rain!
