Tunnel Bluffs – Lions Bay, BC

Tunnel Bluffs is a moderate hike near Vancouver offering one of the best viewpoints over Howe Sound. With sweeping views of Bowen Island, Horseshoe Bay, and the coastal mountains, it’s a favourite for locals and visitors alike — especially for sunrise and sunset photography.

Whether you’re heading up for a quick leg-burner or a leisurely afternoon picnic, the view from the bluffs is absolutely worth the climb. 📸 The best photo spot is at the main rocky outcrop, where the trees part and the full coastal panorama opens up.

The trail begins from the Sunset Drive trailhead in Lions Bay. You’ll climb steeply on an old gravel service road before reaching a forested path that gently weaves through the trees. There are a few junctions along the way, so pay attention to signage pointing toward Tunnel Bluffs. Near the top, the trail opens onto a wide rocky bluff — the perfect place to catch your breath and soak it all in.

There are no facilities past the trailhead, so bring water and be prepared. Dogs are allowed off‑leash but should be kept close, especially near the cliff edges and creek crossings.

No permit or reservation is required for this hike, but parking is paid and limited, especially on weekends. It’s recommended to arrive early or visit on a weekday for a quieter experience.
