Divide Lake is a stunning backcountry camping spot nestled in the Tombstone region of the Yukon. The hike starts from Grizzly Lake campground, taking you up and over Glissade Pass with epic views of Mount Monolith. After a rocky descent, the trail winds through an alpine meadow before reaching the tranquil waters of Divide Lake. The campground offers tent pads, a cooking shelter, and beautiful day trip options like Axelman Lakes and Mount Frank Rae. Just watch out for those mischievous ground squirrels who love to nibble on your gear!
Eryn's Tips:
Divide Lake is absolutely amazing and is such a relief after hiking over the pass! Make sure you pack a swimsuit because you'll want to dive in if it's a nice day!
Like Grizzly Lake and Talus Lake, this backcountry campground has (probably the most scenic I've ever seen) outhouses and tent pads.
The hike down to Divide over glissade pass is pretty intense, and I'm going to be honest, hiking back up, I cried! But it is so worth it. Just prepare yourself for a steep slope that feels like it's never-ending. When we did our trip, there were some experienced South American hikers who had hiked all over the world. When we got to the top of Glissade and looked over the edge, the hikers had been up there for a while and said there was "no way to get down the pass", due to the snow and lack of trail. Nathan and I had Mosley on a leash. We both looked at the descent, looked back at the two guys and said, "follow us," and slid down the scree slopes. When people say Yukon hiking is different from a lot of places, they aren't joking!
