Spend three weeks discovering the definitive highlights of South Africa, a journey that captures the country's most iconic landscapes and wildlife. This route seamlessly blends the sophisticated culture of the Western Cape with the subtropical wildness of the KwaZulu-Natal coast and the legendary Kruger. You’ll fly into Cape Town (CPT) for the first leg, then take a domestic flight from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) to Durban to maximize your time in the bush. Finally, you'll be able to drop your rental car in Kruger Airport for convenience or Johannesburg (though count a full day of driving for that).

  • Total Driving Distance: ~1,850 km (1,150 miles) across two rental segments.

  • Route: Cape Town → Winelands → Oudtshoorn → Garden Route → Addo Elephant Park → [Flight from Gqeberha to Durban] → Ballito → St Lucia → Eswatini (Lobamba) → Kruger National Park → Panorama Route → Kruger Airport (or Johannesburg).

  • Best Time to Go: The autumn shoulder season (April to May) is the "all-rounder" winner, offering mild Cape weather and excellent visibility for wildlife. Alternatively, September to October is fantastic for catching the end of the dry season in Kruger and whale watching along the southern coast.
