What you’ll do

The drive down the South Coast of NSW is one of the most scenic road trips, with rolling green hills on one side and turquoise ocean on the other. Along the way you’ll pass through laid-back coastal towns, each with their own charm, and discover pristine stretches of sand that are perfect for a swim or a beachside picnic.

This stretch of coastline is famous for its stunning beaches, with Jervis Bay often named one of the best in the country thanks to its bright white sand and crystal-clear water. As you continue south, be sure to try the region’s incredible seafood, from freshly shucked oysters to local fish and chips enjoyed by the water.

When is the best time to visit

The best time to do this road trip is between late spring and early autumn (October to April), when the weather is warm, the water is perfect for swimming, and the coastal towns are buzzing with life. Winter can also be beautiful, with fewer crowds and the chance to spot migrating whales from the shoreline, although it is noticeably colder with a higher chance of rainfall.
